It is an unfortunate predicament to have water leakage issues; up to 90% of bathrooms have complaints regarding waterproofing in their sanitary areas. Specifically, shower areas face these problems the most, as the water runs for a longer time in that space and costly efforts are required to overcome the difficulty. This especially is true for communal showers in gyms or locker rooms and other such facilities where people visit in large numbers. These leakages do not only destroy the look of the showers and damage the structural framework, but they promote the growth of micro-organisms.

The best advice, in this case, is to prevent the issue before spending money to renovate the bathroom. While tiling the floors in communal washrooms in the first place it is better to make the surface waterproof to avoid problems in the near future. Surfaces in the shower area need to be watertight, as well as easy to clean and prevent water from penetrating behind linings or into the concealed spaces.

It is important to recall that fully tiled showers do not comply with the issue of waterproofing. Ceramic tiles may be able to prevent it, but the cement-based do not address the problem. So, to solve this issue, a waterproof membrane must be placed before the tiling of the floor and its walls.

Aquafin Pakistan Pvt Ltd ensures the waterproofing before the tiling in a 5-step process:

  • Pipe penetrations will be grouted with Non-Shrink Cementitious Grout
  • The 2 comp waterproofing flexible coatings will be applied with joint tape on pipe sleeves and corners to watertight the joints
  • The concrete screed will be laid after waterproofing application
  • For further reinforcement, the Acrylic-based waterproofing membrane will be applied before tiling.
  • The tiles will be fixed with our suggested adhesive and grouts.

We render our customers with a surface waterproofing membrane known as Combiflex PK. It is quite easy to apply and there is no requirement for mixing or heating; therefore, saving labor costs. It has high tensile strength and elongation and is an excellent adhesion to the substrate.

Combiflex can also withstand severe causes of expansion, contraction and deck movements, which in turn makes it non-cracking. Furthermore, it has a resistance to peeling, chipping and/or separation which gives it a longer life.

Aquafin has been in Pakistan since 1947 forging ahead in their goal is to redefine waterproofing design details through research and introduction of modern materials. To do so, Aquafin partners with market leaders in structural and architecture design teams to provide an unrivaled product supply and technical support.
